Bachelor Blades
When a friend was getting married, I wanted to make some blades as mementos for the bachelor party. I designed each blade to fit the personalities of who would receive them.
For the Groom
I went with a Seax style oversized kitchen knife from 5160 spring steel. Due to a crack in mu original handle material, I ended up switching to a two-tone handle of rosewood and black walnut. I wanted this blade to be for use in the home, but with a unique spin and a little over the top, just like the owner.
For the Best Man
The Best Man is a powerhouse of a man, so an axe felt more suitable than a knife. Nothing flashy. Effective. Reliable. So for him, I made a camp/throwing axe with a hickory handle with a burnt finish.
For My Brother
This bachelor party happened to coincide with my brothers birthday so this doubled as both a birthday present and and his bachelor weekend present. He is a very practical person and loves to be prepared. I made him this camp knife from a high carbon steel provided by our grandfather, to add a little more sentimental value, and some ebony handle scales.
For the Groomsman
It also happened to be close to another groomsman’s birthday that weekend, so another two-for. As a Marine, he has a strong fighting spirit with an appreciation for things slightly exotic or outside the norm. So for him I went with a Karambit. This was the first Karambit I had ever made. 5160 spring steel with ironwood scales. It was my first time working with ironwood too, boy does it STINK while grinding. But it looks so nice, it is well worth the smell in the end.
